Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Subcategory 2.4
: Contractor for On-Site Sewage Systems
What is subcategory 2.4 of the RBQ?
Subcategory 2.4 is a specialized contractor’s license that authorizes construction work related to on-site sewage systems, i.e., the treatment of wastewater from buildings. Such work is permitted provided that it is not exclusively reserved for master plumbing mechanics.
Which RBQ exams are required for subcategory 2.4?
To act as a responsible party for Construction Work (ETC) in this specialty, you must pass a multiple-choice theory exam developed by the RBQ. This assessment exam lasts up to 3 hours, and the passing score is 60%. (Note: As with any contractor, you must also pass the core exams in administration, safety management, and project management.)
What skills are assessed on the ETC 2.4 exam?
The exam for subcategory 2.4 is based on a highly technical competency profile focused on drainage. You will be assessed on your ability to:
- Understanding the system selection process (soil characterization, assessment of hydraulic capacity).
- Read and interpret plans and specifications related to plumbing systems.
- Properly install the various components: tanks, pump stations, treatment units, and sand filters.
- Use a level carefully to ensure proper gravity flow.
How can you best prepare to get your 2.4 license?
The best way to prepare is to study environmental regulations (particularly the Regulation respecting the disposal and treatment of wastewater from isolated dwellings), the Safety Code for Construction Work, and the RBQ’s competency profile. To quickly master this highly specialized knowledge, it is strongly recommended that you take a comprehensive preparatory course. (Insert a natural link here to Groupe GSC’s Training Course 2.4).
