CCQ cards
Quebec's construction industry imposes hiring criteria for its workforce.
The legislation
Construction companies must therefore comply with these criteria to stay within the law.
The founding principle of this legislation is competence, which can be acquired through the training required to obtain the competency cards issued by the Commission de la construction du Québec.
The jurisdiction
If you do not hold a vocational diploma (DEP) in one of the construction trades, you can still legally obtain a CCQ card or CCQ competency certificate. With this card you can work legally and in compliance with the Act respecting labour relations, vocational training and workforce management in the construction industry (Act R-20).
There are three categories of certificates:
Journeyman competency certificate (CCC)
For the worker who has completed their apprenticeship and passed the qualification exam of their trade.
Apprentice competency certificate (CCA)
For the worker learning a trade under the supervision of a journeyman while accumulating apprenticeship hours.
Occupation competency certificate (CCO)
For the worker practising a construction occupation other than a regulated trade.
